So, I'm on the committee for this fairly major BMX event in San Jose, which is taking place on Saturday. I'm in charge of media relations, and am shooting the event for ESPN.

And now I've got gnarly back spasms, haven't been able to stand up straight since Friday, and have an appointment with a chiropractor tomorrow.

The worst part is that I found out earlier today that I'm getting laid off at the end of next month, so I desperately need the cash and can't hand the shooting job over to someone else, no matter how much my back hurts.

:violin:

On the bright side of things, either Outback or Chipotle is catering the thing for the participants and media, so at least I've got that going for me.

Take a couple Advil... have a couple more ready to go... switch on auto-pilot... you'll most likely be glad you did when the day's over. Some of the best gigs I've had are ones I didn't think I could do for one reason or another :)

You can probably psych yourself into feeling good enough to do it... as you should, comparatively speaking... this should be easy money. National broadcast gigs are the best... don't miss it (if possible).

Oh, I've got Percocet and Icy Hot for that. It's more the whole "having my back start spasming all crazy while bending over and shooting fisheye" that worries me.

I should have specified that this is for their website. It won't end up on TV, and it doesn't pay half as well as it should. Still, though, it's less stressful work than doing a catering gig.

Hooray for Percocet. Wear a brace if you can, to keep your back from over-extending or over-rotating.

Back problems suck. I feel for you.

Boy, those Percs turn me into this:

If you are experiencing spasms, you may want to ask your doc if a muscle relaxant would help. For me it's usually a strain, helped only by rest and heat.

Laying on your back with your legs raised on a couple of pillows while you sleep will help as well.

I had something similar happen as a result of a volleyball injury a couple years ago, and my doctor prescribed me flexiril is a muscle relaxant. Never again.

Leaving for the chiropractor in a minute, so hopefully that'll go well.
