medium light for in car shots...

i am going to be doing some documentary work where i need to get footage of someone talking while their driving...

i have the windshield car mount on the way and i just need to figure out some low/medium level lighting.

i forget the name but i saw something that was specific for putting on the visor or below dash but it was liked $600+

what is there that is more realistic for low-budget, no budget documentary work?

i know i have seen small 6 inch or so fluorscents for work lights, would that be a lousy color white?

I've heard that white christmas lights work decently - because you can move them around wherever you need them to be...

I think you are referring to the baby Kino Flo's that can be mounted to a sunvisor or underneath the dash. Now my question to you is, how are you planning to shoot through the front windshield and not pick up any reflection off the glass? Will the camera be mounted right up on the glass?

Re: medium light for in car shots...

i will be shooting inside the car, often while moving on a roadtrip, so the lighting needs to be subtle both so it looks natural and so it is safe for the driver!

i saw some lights, Gyoury fluorescents that looks just right, they even have some nice car mounts and the bulbs are fairly cheap but you need a ballast and it is vague which ballast, the one they list is huge/expensive and i think that is for their large lights.

gyoury lights are incredible. very expensive but fantastic results...

well that is the confusing part, the "wands" are realy cheap, like $40 each in either tungsten or daylight, but they don't list a ballast.

on their website they mention some specific sylvannia ballast that can dim it down to as little as 1%

the only ballast i see listed for them looks like its for a huge light bank not the little wands.

they have kits but only for their big lights, i have a preference for kits because you know you'll get the right parts and you usually save $ while your at it.

i'm probably going to be ordering a frezzi mini, either 35 or 100 watt and the kits help show what goes together.
