medium format DOF

Do you get shallower DOF by using medium format projection onto the gg rather than 35mm? What are the benefits other than there being a lower grain to image ratio?

I did not push through in making a 35 mm adapter since I have several medium format lenses around. By just 'eyeballing the projected image it cast on a dummy film plane I concluded that its better than 35 mm. IMHO more illumination from the bigger image, better chances of getting that image in focus, and of course lower grain to image size ratio. I'm updating my site in a while to show shots of people.

looks very nice!, how many stops did you loose on the dvx? also do u notice a shallower depth of field, its hard for me to tell from just the grabs?

give or take 1 to 2 stops. As to your question of a shallow DOF. Compared to what?

The DVX? or a 35mm lens?

I didnt push thru with the 35mm but with the stock lens, DEFINITELY! very shallow indeed. There is a sample picture of two guys smiling in my link, I set the focus to the nearer guy's nose and eyes, you can see that his ears is begining to go soft already. The didtance between them is less than 3 feet.

I'll do a more objective test on how much f stops is lost. I honestly didnt do much test on that. It wasnt much of a problem on my setup.
