medialiquid psa contest results

...well, i put somthing together for this about 3 days before the deadline  i guess i did ok on this one. i got a phone call last night, and was told i was a finalist for the 30 sec PSA.  gets me 300.00, and ive been told it will be airing somtime in may. so even though i didnt take top spot to make dvxuser proud, its still a little victory for us.  its hard with  that type of thing, becuase you never know what excact angle of attack for the message they are looking for. so you can make somthing good, but just not say it the way they feel is best. but still a little victory,  you can visit the site here:
http://www.medialiquid.com/home.html
there is a pic of my entry on the right hand side of the "gallery" entry pic, and another one in the gallery .its titled "your life"  unfortunately thats all you can see of it right now, cause thier web site is going through alot of construction, and alot of stuff seems to be screwed up right now. im sure theyll have it working soon enough though.
also. nathan brown who posted one of  his entries earlier in the screen grabs forum took home a finalist  position for the 15 sec spot.  so congrats to dvx users!!

Re: medialiquid psa contest results

did anyone else from here even enter this thing? i dont remember anyone saying so when nathan asked.. that would be a 100% success rate for dvxuser members lol

Re: medialiquid psa contest results

Congrats loser! I'm waiting for there next contest. See you there!

Re: medialiquid psa contest results

you should really wait another year or 60 before you enter,... cuase i dont need any more competition. :)

Re: medialiquid psa contest results

Yeah you should of seen my storyboard for that contest! I just could not pull it off in time. 8)

Re: medialiquid psa contest results

lol.. i was shaving single frames here and there to fit all the content that i shot from my storyboard into 30 sec.. i could visualize it in my head while i timed it on a clock, but man was it a tool to try and get it all actually in there, i cut some out of course, and whittled it down to the leanest version i could, there was no way of editing it to 15 sec so i couldnt enter it in the 15 sec one. what was your idea for it..now that it no longer matters, you can share please!?

Re: medialiquid psa contest results

thanks john ! and elvis! for the support.  the dissapointing part of it is knowing that you had a good product, and just didnt quite nail the angle on the message that they were looking for. next time ill be sure to  take the time to do a couple well thought out entries, cuase the differnce between 300.00 and 5000.00 is alot but only a few spots away.  but at least it will be aired! my aspiring teenage actors were pretty excited to hear the news, and i think that was the best part for me.. getting to tell them that it will probably be on  the FOX network, and WB stations, as well as other outlets.. they really did a great job i thought. so im happy with the exposure, and a chance to add somthing else to my belt. its really pretty exciting .. and ive got my eye on the next one that comes along...

Re: medialiquid psa contest results

if you register at their site , you can opt to be notified via e-mail of any new projects. sides..., i might just "forget" to invite all the competition :) lol -nah not really.. ill be sure to make a post here when something comes up.

Re: medialiquid psa contest results

hey.. have just seen it now.. great job man! have you done the editing too? looks pretty damn good.. congrats.

Re: medialiquid psa contest results

hey great job loser!  what editing system did you use? how'd you get the footage to slow down ala matrix style?  twixtor?  how about that transition where it flashes white and slowly blends into the girls face?  nice editing job w/ effects!  loser, you're a winner in my book... ;)

Re: medialiquid psa contest results

Hey I still can't get them to play. Keep getting plug in error. Any ideas?

Re: medialiquid psa contest results

Just watched this! Great job IAL and great concept. Really hits home. Reminds me of when I was a younf teenage girl and got pregnant...

I mean, never mind!

Seriously, good work and congrats again!

Re: medialiquid psa contest results

jesus IAL... that is impressive as hell.

Re: medialiquid psa contest results

wow! hey thanks for the props guys..seriously ..means alot to me. you guys are my freinds and peers so to be honest i was more anxious to see what you thought of it than the contest people.
heres the techie wrap on the job.:

this concept was very preplanned and also storyboarded out. i contacted the aspiring actors i had in mind, and a established a shooting day and time. i knew i wouldnt have time to set up a light shop for all the shots..(the teens in the project were actually having a party to get together, and do this too, so i didnt want to be a downer and keep everyone sitting there when i lit them.. i didnt think they were ready for the long hours that they dont know real actors put in) , so anyway i went the route of going to the location a day in advance, and made sure i could light easily by arranging practicals and going through the planned shots to see how the light fell , and how the exposure would be. then on the night of the shoot i brought along a single shop lamp as well for a strong key light. total shooting time was about 1 hour, for about 11 min of footage. was shot in 24pn and 30p mixed (for slow mo shots) and edited in premiere6.5/pro on the matrox rtx100 (since i wasnt doing any 24p master, and only had 2 days to edit and do sound and stuff at night, and i needed to slap it out asap). it was shot entirely with the cam on a glidecam 2000, even the still shots. (cause it saves so much time compared to setting up and moving a tripod or tracks)but all the movement and tracking was handheld from that too. i added a soft focus effect. to give it a sort of glow for a unique "look", and it also allowed me to do the flash transitions, by adding to the glow untill it would flash fill the frame, and then fading into the next clip. the girls face fading in from the white was done by "losers easy frame hold method" ..i exported a full res .tif still, and then imported it to the timeline and stretched it to the desired length, and just used the color corrector and the soft focus glow to overexpose the image, and then keyframed it to slowly town down the effect untill her face started to fade in. the slow motion shots were done by combining a 30p slowdown with some frame interpolation using Dynapel's "motion perfect". sound and music was from my music workshop here. all in all it was pretty basic stuff, and just came down to concept, imagery, and editing. the preplanned storyboard was crucial. so i spent about 8 or so hours reviewing it, and whittling it down to 30 sec, and then. tweeking it. i didnt have any time to do any serious color correction, so i wrapped it up and i had my wife send it out priority fedex overnight. that was pretty much it .

but thanks again guys. i think thats the first time you guys have seen any of my work in motion, so im smiling. hopefully my new feature will turn out ok as well..
