Media Management: Where do you keep your stock assets in FCPX?

I keep all of my stock assets (e.g. film burns, licensed and royalty-free music, textures, etc) in one organized folder on one of my hard drives (with a backup on a separate HD).

When I need a particular asset for a project, I have been importing that asset into the event that includes the other relevant files. Refer to the following screenshot for an example. I imported the licensed, stock asset song ("Sweet Sister") along with my other video footage into the Lauren and Hope event.

Is this the "right" approach?

I'm wondering if it would be better to simply create one "Stock Assets" event within FCPX and then use the individual asset within a project, as needed. Does that make sense?

How do you handle stock assets?

I have a Stock Photos event and Stock Clips event. I keyword each assets logically when I import it., and use smart collections to sort by publishing company, etc. I've even created a few custom metadata fields I use to help sort them, too. I find it's super easy to deal with. For canned music I keep that in iTunes and organize by custom genres and Playlists that I can search in the FCP media browser. But you could put them all in an event if you preferred. This way you can search for them much faster than folders on a hard drive. It's some work up front organizing and such. But I've found that in the long run I spend much less time searching and much more time being productive.

Cool. I'm not sure why I've been doing it the way I have been but it's good to learn a better way.
