(Thought I posted this already, but it's disappeared. Sorry if it's a repeat.)

Anyone know about the Portaprompter:

It looks like an easy DIY project...but I'm not sure what the roller/spool could be made of. I thought of a piece of large PVC pipe, but you also need the hubs at the ends.

Any suggestions?

Its not really DIY is it? Looks like its already to go. Seems kind of expensive for what it is. And if your script is very long, forget it. I would think a real DIY project would be more like these:

or

Most of the problems center around reversing the text so it can be handled in the obligatory mirror. There are programs around that take care of this though.

Powerdog, some small trash cans are cylindrical, perhaps walmart or similar has a plastic or wire mesh version. That would give you one end, at least. Or you might find a cylindrical lamp shade. Perhaps even a Quaker Oats "can", which are just cardboard.

Good luck!

Jmc, good suggestions. Thanks.

Miracom, I don't need full scripts....just a list of bullet points to be covered.

Container Store has metal tins of varying size and shapes. One of those would be perfect--particularly a long and relatively slender one if you just want something to put bullet points on.

What!?!

What!?!

That has to be the dumbest most over-priced piece of film gear I've seen. You don't even achieve eye contact with the camera as it sits below it which will lead most people viewing to ask "What? Is there something in my teeth?" And that price in insane. For my money buy some toilet paper and a dispenser and bolt the thing to the bottom of the camera. You'll have a nearly unlimited scrolling medium which has multiple uses.

Toilet tissue? Anyway, glad to help. I've used those containers once when I was trying to make a fluorescent softbox originally a couple of years ago.
