Measuring exposure

Re: Measuring exposure

I have another question.

I have been reading a book on digital photography and I came to read about histograms. Is there an equivalent of histograms in camcorders?
I would probably guess that the equivalent to photoshop's histogram in a video editing software, would be a vectorscope, right?
But, is there something like this in camera? What is the equivalent of this on the DVX, for example?

Thanks in advance

If you use FCP you can see the Histogram in the tool bench. I guess they are not very popular among video because they don't have their analog counterparts (as the waveforms and vectorscope do)... I don't use it very often though... I guess I'm just used to the Waveforms...

Never noticed that in FCP. Thanks for the tip. But, I am interested to know if there is an equivalent in camera. What would be the equivalent on the DVX, for instance?

All the best

Re: Measuring exposure

There isn't. But if you use the marker (spotmeter) you will be able to aim at a region and get the exact reading in IRE percentages. So you will not have the whole picture, but you will be able to exactly control your exposure. If you use the zebra, you will be able to tell what is blowing out - or close to. Basically, there are a lot of ways to get around without it, but I don't think there is an in-cam option as do the still digicams.

Re: Measuring exposure

Thanks! I am just lazy, I like quick solutions.

It could be like the digital still cameras. That thing is so useful.
It would be cool to have one of those on a camcorder.

Anyway, all the best

Fidel.
