Me66 tweaking tips in post

Hi Guys,

I'm looking at doing a short film soon on a low budget. I have an Me66 shotty and was wondering which software would be good to tweak the audio with in post and what sort of audio mods would u normally perform for a film, I am very new to this so any info would be great, I have access to adobe audition 2 if that helps any.

As I mentioned on another thread to you - your best tweaking of an ME66 is to sell it. ;-)

Ok, here is my stab at being relatively helpful.

I do all the audio editing at the media company I work for and a large amount of field stuff I get is done with the ME66, I beg them to invest in something nicer, but alas, funds go elsewhere (such as a steadicam rig that no one can operate very well, but I am not complaining). Anyway, what I usually find is that its lacking is some bass response and I typically give a little boost in the neighborhood of 200-250 Hz. Sometimes its a little shrill so I pull a little 3K out, on the other hand sometime a little boost at 3k is just what I need to get the dialog to cut a little better.

However, there is not much to be done for crappy mic placement, or bad booming. Unless you can get optimal placement it really starts sounding crappy really fast.

I don't have any cool secrets for you, just use your ears. Don't forget about compression and such.

I just listened to a heap of mics in comparisons (studio) and honestly i loved the senn 416, but who wouldn't . The rode NTG's were ok but in that environment i couldn't say it sounded better than the ME66. I think i'll just make money with this old bad boy until i get enough cash to go hardcore with the 416 (Would i still use my K6 module with the 416?) Thanks alot for all the feedback guys, Appreciate it! :thumbup:

No, you would not use the K6 module. The 416 is not modular, it is one whole mic:) You will however need to give it 48v, no batteries for that one, or most mics worth their salt.

Yeah, the 416 is great. Its a standard for a reason. I like the MKH 60 too. There are plenty of good mics out there. I have never met a person who regretted buying a nice mic.
