ME66 from Expandore

Hi guys. Need a discussion regarding shopping for accessories online.

I have in the past bought from Expandore. Now, I need a microphone, and noticed that Expandore had a nice price on the usually pricey ME66

http://www.expandore.biz/product_de...eid=&catid=7&brandid=34&formatid=all&start=31

What else do I need for proper boom mounting? What appropriate microphone support equipment do i need? And where else can I look in my region (Australia) for low cost microphone equipment?

A) Can't I just run it off the phantom power option on my DVX?

and

B) B&H Photo video is in the wrong country. I dont buy off them not because they dont seem like a good store, I just cant stand ordering things from the states. Shipping from the states costs the earth and takes forever. I've never had a speedy or low cost delivery from the united states. Regardless of carrier. Expandore got my last order to me in three days.

Christ, my dads fathers day present from Amazon arrived yesterday and the shipping was more then the book. And I have had the same experience with every other purchse, company or ebay, from the states. I've learned my lesson. If I wish to wait two months and pay more then the cost of the item in shipping, ill order from the states.

So basically I'll only order from the Asian region.

Plus, what other items do I need to assemble a decent outdoors shotgun/boom? Ive read the guides, but I can only really afford one mike and its support equipment right now, so the mike kit thread is not quite the right advice, because it tends to recommend multiple mikes for different environments, whereas im primarily gonna be shooting outdoors.

No you need the power unit for the mic to work. That is why the price is less then what you wil usually see it for. That puts you back up to the $450 USD range and so, yadda yadda yadda, get the AT4073a instead.

If you have good results ordering from Asian region you might want to check out these guys on ebay for your mount and windscreen, they are based out of India: http://cgi.ebay.com/Blimp-Windshiel...oryZ3319QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Yes, please do a search on the ME66 here to get a better understanding of the opinions on that particular mic before you invest in it (regardless of where you purchase it from).

As far as where to purchase equipment from, you might try Trew Audio in Canada. Given that they are part of the "commonwealth" you might be able to avoid duty and some taxes (but don't quote me on this...I'm in the U.S. and therefore not an expert...but Trew is extremely helpful, so they might be able to point you in the right direction).

Considering my price range its likely ill plug for an AT-897.

Though I just found a reputable brick and mortar store in melbourne called Facotry Sound that will hock me a Rode NTG + windsock, pole, mounts for 500 AUD (380 US$). Considering that shipping and import duty, its quite a bargain. Extraordinarily unusual too considering the nightmarish cost of AV in this country (You'd be lucky to pick up and FX-1 for under 4000$ US here).

Oh, and there is no special Commonwealth trade deal. The Commonwealth is a largely irrelevent body of nations that once were under British yoke (and didnt revolt violently). But thanks for your help guys

Anyone have good experience with those windscreen/blimp kit from ebay? It's a fraction of the price for the Rycote kit. I wonder what the difference is.

how long it lives and how good it preforms
if the rycote is 9 of 10 that one is between 1 and 2
what you see it cavision even it doesnt have its name on it or the same factory who make it for them .
not that i say to buy rycote , if you can avoid their products and use something else as sennheiser or k-tek it would be much nicer - dont buy from the robbing Barrons .

my dear , i dont write on something that i didnt try- i had one - it flew after few months from my house :-) with broken nose and replacement o ring .
peace of **** .

A guy I know in NZ dropped that link on me. Said it was good for the price but I will just assume listen to Oleg and save my cash. At that cheap a price I had planned to buy one just to see how good/bad it is. Curiousity constantly empties my wallet.

Cheers

Now THERE's a review! Thanks Oleg - you continue to save us from ourselves. Many thanks!

some clarification - the units which where sold in israel 2 years ago - most 'didn't survive -especially these who where in rental houses - they are completely vanished , as i see from the picture, the zeppelin still the same , very frangle , very easy to brake it .my have brakes all over the net joints after few months of use , the suspension rings seems to be changed , my were from hard plastic that broke after felling down - so might be they did change it .
you can try it. it might be work as suspension only and use rycote zeppelin over it , but if you ask me , look for used rycote, it does much better job and much, much longer .
