MBP without graphics card for on the go editing?

Hey folks. My main edit machine is a 2013 27" iMac with a 3.5 GHz i7 and a GTX 780M 4GB graphics card and 8 GB RAM. Still works well for me.

I have an 11" Macbook Air. I kind of love it, honestly. It's so easy to pack into a side bag or camera bag. But for edits on the road, that's tough. And it even runs the edit alright. But you can't hardly work due to the screen size and resolution.

I am in a situation where I am out of town all week, and also have an edit due at the end of the week. I will have time to get it done. But I know it's going to be hell to do on the MBA.

I'm slightly considering just going and buying a MBP. I don't want to since the model is overdue for an update. And because I'd have to pay tax versus buying online. I do have an educator's discount, though. Which some stores will apply.

But this question will apply whether I wait or not. How do you folks feel about using a MBP with an i7 processor that just has integrated graphics? As a secondary/ on the road edit machine. I use Premiere CC. And I think I don't even utilize the graphics card for it on my iMac. Is it mostly processor power that NLE's use nowadays?

If going without the graphics card is advisable, then how does the 13" MBP with retina display do for editing? Whether that's with the current i5 model, or the hopefully inbound update, which I would think might have an i7 option.

Thanks!

Instead of buying a laptop you don’t really need, how about just buying a second monitor and hooking it up to your MBA if screen space is your concern?

Thanks for suggestion. But I think you missed that I already have a dedicated edit station. The laptop is for on the go and field work.

I ended up going with the 13" MBP retina with 256 GB SSD drive. And I'm happy with the purchase. It is doing everything that I need it to. The 13" is perfect for me. The screen resolution is very good. Coming from my 11" MacBook Air, it feels like 15". So I'd hate to know what the actual 15" would feel like too me-- that is, too big. Hopefully I don't have buyer's remorse when the new models are announced w/in the next few months. But I needed it then, so I'm good on the decision I made.
