MBP/FCX and Thunderbolt issue

Setting up a MacbookPro Retina. Final Cut X installed. I have an 8TB Thunderbolt G-Raid set up. When I launch X, the Thunderbolt drive pops up in the Event/Project area(s) but then just disappears...poof!

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Make sure you haven't got any copies of media cards at the root level- or say a folder called Video or Private- that can fool FCPX into thinking it's a camera instead of a connected drive.

It does actually. TY. I copied some video off an SD card. Another oddity, when I opened the card contents on the MB it didn't show the usual card architecture (I'm shooting avchd on a FS700). On my iMac, it displays Sony and Private but then sub-cats of avchd/stream etc...
The MBP just had QT open up the contents and it just had the "private" label on it. Am I missing a setting in how the mac opens up the SD cards?

Thanks!

Just move those out of the root level i.e. into another directory and FCPX should be fine.

Noah,

The first suggestion did the trick. Many thanks. I never would have considered that. My pee sized brain is trying to understand the SD card on the desktop problem.
In a normal workflow, the first thing I would do is expose the card structure and make a back copy. When I pen the card up on the MBP desktop I get the Private/QT title and then thats it.
Can you steer me in using very small words that a 3 year old would understand LOL. It's been a long day...(sigh)

Why is QT used to open up the card. Normally I would just use VLC player etc...

Hi John, unfortunately this is how Mac OS X 10.8 shows AVCHD directories now. You can control click "PRIVATE" and then "Show Package Contents." You'll end up needing to do that a couple more times, both with AVCHD and BDMV.

As far as backing up, you could just back up that Private "folder."

If you find yourself needing to get into those folders frequently and are annoyed by having to Show Package Contents, you can rename those folders to lowercase, for example "private" instead of "PRIVATE" and the OS won't see it as a camera archive, but FCP X will still see it properly if you want to import.

I suppose you could create an Automator workflow to do the renaming for you, if you were ambitious and this was a major annoyance.
