Maybe the "Holy Grail"

Sony Professional Disc media is re-usable up to 1,000 read/write cycles and up to 10,000 read/write cycles in ideal conditions. $30 per disc, with a capacity of 23.3 GB per disc.

That does sound attractive. If not the "Holy Grail," we're getting close.

We had a demo of the initial line of XDCams (NOT the XDCam HDPros... they're not out yet), and I was very impressed with what I saw.

We were strongly considering the XDCam HDs, but we realized that our budget will allow us to get a few more HDCams (or one CineAlta... we haven't made our minds up!) instead. Again, the cameras are great for the money (less than $20,000), but there are a couple of significant drawbacks:

1) The available bit rates are only 18, 25 or 35 Mb/s. That's barely more than HDV at 2-5x the price.

2) The disks can only be read by XDCam HD decks, and those aren't cheaps ($9K-ish)

But again, if you have the money and don't necessarily want to go with an HDV camera, I would STRONGLY look into these.
