Ever seen this?

pixel_aspect.jpg

Kind of of a silly problem. I'm getting this from saving render views from maya to .jpg and trying to open in photoshop. Simple, but nooooooooooooooooo. That's too simple.
The image is squeezed horizontally bigtime. Ofcourse. It's maya.

Haha, any hints?

Yes, there's a pixel aspect ratio associated with the files. You should check your Maya export settings to make the aspect ratio 1:1 square pixels.

It's quite common in video, DV and HDV always has one. For example, for HDV if you divide 1440 / 1080 you don't get 16/9. This must be corrected by stretching the footage by a pixel aspect ratio. Photoshop has a setting so that you can view the pixels as they are stored or it will stretch it for you so that it looks right. The stretching never looks very good, though.

Alright. I don't know why they would do that by default, but they do stuff like that.

I checked the pref's and didn't see anything. I'll ask Tom Marshall about it and see if he knows anything.
Maya's a great program but it's also so ass backwards sometimes it makes you wonder. I mean, it's such a broken piece of software it should be embarrassing to the company and anyone who brags it up. It's basically always in a state of beta. It's pretty bad. But hey, that's Maya.

I appreciate the help. It's a minor problem. We'll figure it out.

Thanks man.

Oh, haha, I found it. In photoshop it's View->Pixel Aspect Ratio Correction. It can be checked on and off. Sheeesh.
