mattebox on 50mm lens?

I am considering to get into 35mm DoF and, of course, I'm looking at really fast primes like the Nikon 50mm f/1.4.

This lens seems too short to put a focusing ring on, for follow focusing, and attaching a Vocas MB350 mattebox to. Is it possible? And more importantly, is it functional?
 
You might check into the Redrock Micro follow focus gears. They should fit the Nikon lens. I have a 50mm F1.4 Nikon for my M2 with a Chrosziel Mattebox. I added a rubber wide angle lens hood onto the lens to give a light seal between the lens and the mattebox. I leave the rubber hood in the folded position and it works just fine.

I don't know if that answers the "is it functional" question because I don't really understand what you are asking.
