MatteBox Choice

I would like to purchase a mattebox for my DVX100 with the intent to use it on an HVX200 as well. Additionally, I'd like it to work on my Z1U. I've selected one from Cavision, but would like to know if the 4x4 bellows type is prefered over the hard shell type. Also, the box will be used with a .8 WA adapter so my concern is cropping with 4x4 filters vs 4x4.5. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks, Craig

Check out the Geardear mattebox. I have found it very sturdy, blocks light well and holds filters well.

thanks...

thanks...

I will look into both.....appreciate the feedback. BTW I have also found out that only the hard shell Cavision will work with the wide angle in 16:9.
Thanks again, Craig

I currently use a Chrosziel DV Sunshade, but I am going to purchase the redrock mattebox...
I am also interest in this redrock mattebox, anyone know a price of this thing? :Drogar-Dum(DBG):

okay that is a decent price lah ;)
like to see more of this one & to compare it with the Cavision...

not really looking for a mattebox more of a lens shader that will mount to 15mm rods, but I can't see paying over $100 for something this simple and cheap to make. just a overpriced barndoor. any ideas.

I'm not justifying some of the prices from these manufacturers (Chrosziel uggh..) , but thinking that a good matte box should be $100.00, well... Go ahead, engineer and build your own matte box- and keep track of the time/money involved going this route. It has to have some durability, adjustability, be light weight, have rotating filter slots/trays and be multi-configurable (new word). And- it has to last more than three months of use. I suspect that in short order, you'll understand why they cost as they do.

Of course, this is not even taking into account profit margin .

well really all it needs is a hole for the lens, two side wals and a larger top wall, dont need to filter, I firter lights not lenses, well except for a uv, and sometimes polorizer. which screw onto the lens. I just need a shadebox. surely something out there with 15mm mounts, no filter slots, or anything like that, I mean one a ptoto type is done, its jsut stamped plastic.

I guess I could vacuform one and bolt it to a premade 15mm rod bracket.

i'm looking for something like that, but with larger walls, and maybe a french flag, also 15mm rod supported not lens clamed, I'm using a redrock, with pentax lenses, 3 lenses right now, more later, so I want to be able to use it with most of my lenses,

when I'm just using the camera, I find that the hvx's shadebox works fine for almost everything.
