Matteblox Vignetting :(

Just got my Matteblox in the mail today.

After throwing it on the camera and pressing a 4x4 filter into the end of the matteblox I was somewhat disappointed to find vignetting up to about Z18 :(. Is this normal for the 4x4? I hadn't read about vignetting in any of the reviews and didn't expect to see any, but there it is.

Are most matteblox/4x4 filter users just staying at a focal length longer than Z18, or is there a trick to minimizing the vignetting?

Re: Matteblox Vignetting :(

Why are people calling it a MatteBlox? Its Matte Box.

I don't know...All I do know is that I have the Cavision 4x4 Mattebox and I am editing some stuff now that has some vignetting in half of my shots. The messed up thing is that you don't see it on the flip out screen when your shooting. I now have to letter box a good chunk of my project which is isn't a problem, just making more work for me to do! :(

Re: Matteblox Vignetting :(

They refer to the Cinetactics Matteblox, reviewed on this site (though the link on the homepage leads to the Nancy Schreiber interview).

Re: Matteblox Vignetting :(

No screw-on filters. My setup is:

Camera->Cinetactics 72mm adapter ring->Matteblox->A 4x4 filter

DVX100Shooter,

I'm a little mystified as to why you are getting vignetting on your 4x4. I have the exact same one and have gotten no vignetting whatsoever, even at full wide.

Are you using screw-in filters or a wide angle lens attachment?

Just curious...

Re: Matteblox Vignetting :(

I am using the Cavision Adapter Ring AR-85-72. I use 4x4 filters. Maybe later on, I will post a grab of the vignetting I am getting.

Re: Matteblox Vignetting :(

DVX100Shooter... They call it Mattblox because it blocks the border's view therefore vignetting... He he he... ok it wasn't funny... my bad! ;D

Re: Matteblox Vignetting :(

We just showed a new Wide Angle Matte Box designed for the DVX at the Cine Gear show in L.A., it will not vignette with our .7x and two 4 x4 filters. It comes as a clamp-on ($1,069.00 list) or with 15mm rods and a french flag ($1,549.00 list).

Re: Matteblox Vignetting :(

I have a video clip that I can make into a freeze frame to post to show the vignetting but I am unsure how to do it once I freeze it in FCP. I tried dragging it to my desktop but it wouldn't stay there.

Re: Matteblox Vignetting :(

I guess the way to go is to make your own matte box, like I did. Mine works great with the 16:9.

Re: Matteblox Vignetting :(

How would one go about making thier own matte box? I'd like to build one that works with the anamorphic adapter.

Re: Matteblox Vignetting :(

i use the matteblox with 4x4s ,and as long as you get the filter back in there, theres no vignetting even at full wide, you just have to actually get the filter way into the matteblox, the sides of the velcro for the filter holder are flush with the front of the main matteblox hood for me when the filter is in it. works great.

Re: Matteblox Vignetting :(

i'm also getting vignetting on my matteblox, it's happening on the left hand and left top corner of the screen. It doesn't show much on the lcd but when i look at it in final cut i can really see it at the widest view.
