Re: Matteblox vignetting on left coner of lense

It looks like we need to have a note somewhere on our site that there will be some vignetting on the DVX100 and DVX100A when the Matteblox is mounted with the 72mm Threaded Adapter AND another 72mm filter is already in place.

In summary: It appears that you can either use the UV or have full wide zoom. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Someone might want to try a slim filter on the front of the 72mm Threaded Adapter, there is a chance that it might just clear the field of view. We will have to try it and see.

Re: Matteblox vignetting on left coner of lense

Regardless of the vignetting I will keep the Matteblox, it is too nice of a tool and I intend to use it.
I'll rather find a solution.
The vignetting is on all 4 corners but more accentuated on the left of the lens.
Perhaps the tiffen UV filter is slimmer then the one I have, it will be interesting to hear from some other DVX users that have Tiffen or other UV filter that work fine with the Matteblox.
I also did another test, I shot some clips in letterbox and squeeze format, NO VIGNETTING at all at 0 zoom.
I don't have an answer to this one.
I also would like to know if matteblox work well with glass filter, if this is the case I'll rather use glass filter.
Thanks.

Re: Matteblox vignetting on left coner of lense

Interesting Note on Letterbox Mode (which is the only way I like to shoot) and the Squeeze. I thought the MAtteblox offered a SLIDE Filter get-up? Why the need for the 72mm adapter? Is it soley for adding 72mm Filters?

Re: Matteblox vignetting on left coner of lense

you dont slide the filters into the matteblox, you slide them into little velcro pouches and you press them into the matteblox.. an interesting system that seems ghetto but works rather well, and for stunts etc you can slap optical flat in there and it does a good job of sealing out dirt, blood etc.

The adapter is not for filters per say, but for attatching the matteblox to the camera, it doesnt use rails so it mounts to the front of the lens.

Got ya. Thanks Jarred. I still want to get this product because the Century one insults my intelligence, er pocket change.

Re: Matteblox vignetting on left coner of lense

If it does not vignette with the glass filter mounted on the velcro pouche in front of the matteblox it make me very happy, this is what I wanted to do to begin with anyway.

Re: Matteblox vignetting on left coner of lense

..the answer to why it doesnt vignette in letterbox or squeeze mode, is that your not seeing the corners to begin with .. if you look at jareds photos up above, and imagine drawing a 16:9 frame in the center of one of his pics with the vignetting, you can see that your obviosly not looking at the corners.. the corners are blacked out in the black bars covering the top and bottom of the screen. sqeeuze mode IS the EXCACT SAME THING as letterbox mode, only after it takes a letterbox image , it crops and strectches that center image to fill the frame by stretching it tall in the camera for you, so you dont have to do it in post. so in squeeze mode the corners are blacked out when it shoots letterbox, and then cropped out altogether.
