Matteblox mb100m

Re: Matteblox mb100m

"What makes a mattebox cost $1500 vs $200?"

if you look at a $200 mattebox and a $1500 one, you should be able to tell the difference.

I've got a matteblox and am fairly happy with it. I had to get the slim 72mm adaptor ring to get rid of the vinetting I was having but for the price, it's been really handy.

An earlier post had someone making a homemade one and it looked really good. In basic sense, a mattebox prevents light spill onto the lens, however they're also used to be able to stack pro filters without image issues.

Hi Mathew,

The build it yourself matt box is cool. In the first picture it mentions printing out the design on card stock etc.. Do you have a file of the design that I can download? :D

Re: Matteblox mb100m

Yeah, if there was a way you could make these available that would be super :D

Charge a couple bucks each maybe ;) That way you could get some pocket change, cuz if it was even five bucks, a bunch of lazy people who don't want to make their own have an out (like me) and it's still WAYYY cheaper than buying even the cinetactics matteblox.

Just a thought ;D

Re: Matteblox mb100m

There is a thread a couple of pages down with all the links . . . go ahead . . all yours

Re: Matteblox mb100m

PS. I have tought of printing them out by a printer on a2 card and pre cut, it would take 5 mins to put one together. Maybe make them available in a pack of 5 or 10 disposable matteboxes. Still working on the new version though for the ana adapter.

Re: Matteblox mb100m

or even get them printed on thin plastic, like the petrol hoods. that would be cool.

Re: Matteblox mb100m

hmmm nice thought . . . but jarred what happened to the bogen news? that is also v interesting!

Re: Matteblox mb100m

Im waiting for Bogen to send me an adapter ring that may make the bogen perfect.. The review is waiting on that. I actually got hired to shoot a Pilot this weekend with the worst 3 chipper in the world (the PD150) and used the Bogen on that.. and it held up very well.

Re: Matteblox mb100m

I too had to use a sony this weekend, the vx2000. Hmmmm I do like my dvx, I must say.

Re: Matteblox mb100m

The worst 3-chipper? Jarred, surely you forget the original Sharp 3-CCD DV camera... :)

Hey, Matthew, that thin-plastic idea is actually a GREAT idea. The Petrol hood that I have comes with a plastic insert that says "Panasonic DV Cinema", and it's relatively sturdy... if you made the disposable mattebox out of that stuff, it wouldn't even have to be disposable! You could probably sell 'em all day long at $39.95 or $49.95, and they'd cost you maybe fifty cents in materials to make...
