Matte Boxes With 1.6X Lens

Will either Formatt or CAvision Matte Boxes work well with the 1.6 Extender? I have read that you must use the Chroziel Matte Box for the Anamorphic Adapter. Is the same true with the 1.6X lens?

I use the Cavision 4x4 bellows mattebox with the 1.6x lens. It doesn't fit into the "ring" of the mattebox so you have to buffer the matteshade against the lens and secure it in place. It works fine because the lens attachment is not a zoom-through and there is no vignetting.

Are you using the rods? Did you go with the support grips?

Yes and yes...I only really use one of the grips. I hold the camera in my right hand via the side strap and in my left via the left handle. It gives me plenty of stability with the mattebox on.

Disjecta you must be one of those few people who own the 1.6x adaptor. I've taped concerts from the back of auditoriums where I wished for a little more reach to get those nice facial close ups. Is the increase zoom marked increased or just very mild( its only really a half times more zoo)? Also do you find it very useful for decreasing the depth of field?

I love the lens and can't recommend it highly enough. It goes a long way towards getting that perceived shallow depth of field and I use it fof that purpose quite a lot.

It magnifies your subject quite substantially. It's a must for me being into nature filmmmaking.

Be warned, though, the thing is huge and heavy.
