Hi :),

What value dose the matte box's adds to the footage ?
Is it really important to have one ?

Matte boxes allow you to use filters. A 2 stage matte box will allow you to use 2 filters at once. The matte box also helps to keep light out of the lens to prevent washed out images. I like matte boxes because of the convenience of switching out different filters quickly and easily. One other benefit, if you are using grad filters you can slide the filter up and down to place it anywhere in the frame. Good matte boxes also let you rotate each stage, critical for polarizing filters....Plus it makes the camera look so dang cool!
 
Chrosziel, Vocas, and Petroff are the top tier units. Cavision, and Red Rock (among others) are popular lower priced units.

I have a Petroff, it's outstanding. I also own a Chrosziel, it's excellent as well.
