Matte Box question - need help

Hey everyone, I just hooked up my Redrock adapter and I am trying to figure out how to connect my original matte box that came off of my HVX200. I can't afford a quality matte box right now, so I just want to use what I have. I just ordered a 55mm to 82mm step-up ring, but just realized I need something else. The Panasonic HVX200 matte box attaches with the locking teeth (sorry, not sure what that's called), it's not threaded. Can anyone help me out with this problem, or point me in the right direction?

your best bet for doing that would be attaching it to a support that goes onto the rods and using some sort of cloth to go between the mattebox and the lens. It can be tricky on still lenses are there generally isn't much room on the lens.

I do not believe there is a way to directly connect the matte box from a hvx or dvx directly to a 35mm lens. I'd be interested if you could find a way.

He doesn't have a mattebox.

he's talking about attaching the stock hvx200 shade to block light off is 35mm lenses.

actually, yeah, you could...you'd need to get some rail blocks and something to connect to your hood to adjust it up and down...but that means possibly drilling holes in your matte box(lens shade)

Talk to Gerhard at geardear, he will likely be able to cut you up a custom bracket that will hold your lens hood on the rails. His custom stuff is pretty cheap too...

oops, yeah I meant to say lens shade not matte box... Thanks for all of the input everyone, I think I might just try to stretch my budget and invest in a decent matte box. I really hate to sound cheap, but can anyone recommend an inexpensive matte box that will work with the redrock setup?

Assuming you're planning on using your 15mm rails to mount it up, our existing mattebox height adjustable mount will adapt to this box if you're OK with drilling two small holes in it. Give us a call during the day :-)
