matte box in final cut pro

Hi,

I am switching from Adobe Premiere to Final Cut and obviously have some problems figuring it out.

In Premiere I used a matte box file, which was a .gif that was basically two black bars on top and bottom and then a transparent layer in the middle.

I just put it over the the timeline and got the desired widecreen effect.

However, in Final Cut it is not transparent, it is just white. I tried saving it in different formats, including .psd, but it is still not transparent. hm?

Using the widescreen filter doesn't suit me in FCP.

Thank you and Merry Christmas!

ok, I figured it out, you just have to go to Effects > Video Filters > Key > Luma Key and apply it on the image.

Just posting it here, if someone elase has a similar problem with making the image transparent.

You could also have changed it's composite mode to Screen (or Multiply)...

Do that by right clicking on the thing in question... then the contextual menu will show composite mode.

You can also use the widescreen filter to do the same thing then use the offset to line up the video within the matte to fit your needs.

I also keyframe the offset as well to give the illusion of tilting the camera.

Correct me if this isnt what you needed help with- you could also change the aspect ratio to -33.33.

No -- that will 'distort' the image. What this person wants to do is use 3:2 and mask it to look like letterbox.
