Matrox MXO vs Digital cinema Desktop

Hey all,

been reading about the matrox MXO. Seems really good. However some of the stuff it does seems like a really good thing if you are working with tapes and so forth. If I am working in a tapless workflow how does it help? Does it help with colour reproduction due to the elimination of the YUV->RGB conversion?

Thanks for your thoughts.

First off, it is a WORLD of difference between the MXO and Digital Cinema Preview. Smoother, you can see both fields, and color representation is so good, that you can use the MXO and Apple Cinema Display to color correct broadcast TV footage. I have gotten that combination to come VERY close to what I had on my HD CRT....so close that I trust it implicitly. The MXO connects via DVI, converts the signal into a broadcast one that it can display on the ACD.

It is PERFECT for the tapeless workflow, because you don't need a capture card in those cases, and the MXO is output only.

It doesn't support COLOR yet, but they are working on it. Also, it doesn't work on the NEW MacBook Pros...the video card was switched from ATI to NVIDIA and one the MXO isn't compatible with.

Its a shame about the ATI thingo, Ive got a Mac book pro, and a 23" apple cinema display. It all sounds extremely good, IF it would work.

Is there an ETA on when the ATI patch will be available?

Cheers

Mark
