I thought I would share a this info with you on my experience with this product.

I recently switched to Vegas 7d from PPro 2 for HDV editing with my Canon A1. I have a 3.2Ghz P-4 with 3mb of ram and a raid array. I previously installed a Nvidia Quadra 540 pro dual head card to run two monitors. This allowed me to spread my desktop over both screens in Vegas and PPro2.

The Quadra 540 pro also includes a breakout box that has S-video, Composite and Component video out. This enables you to select either the second LCD monitor or the TV out (including HDTV YUV) as the second display but not both.

I wanted to use the component YUV connectors to attach my Panasonic broadcast monitor for video preview and color correction. Duh! but either give up the dual desktop which I love or I had to toggle the second LCD on and off in Vegas Video Preview option to have a preview monitor, which was not calibrated or good for CC.

The Matrox let me attach two monitors to the primary head of the Quadra 540 and select one large desktop that spans both 19" monitors with a resolution of 2560 x 1024. To Windows this is just single monitor. I then set my second display in Windowa to HDTV (using the Quadra config) so I can use the breakout box to my broadcast display or an LCD HDTV at 1280 x 720.

I will eventually move to the Blackmagic Design Decklink but my current PC only has one PCIe x16 slot using the Quadra so I need to upgrade the motherbaord or better, I plan to build a new dual core or a core 2 duo box with a motherbaord with more PCIe slots.

This device cost me a $167 with shipping from buy.com. It works beautifully for my current needs and with my calibrated monitor I can perform CC very accurately. You can also do this with a single display video card and get dual monitor display without opening the computer! Then if you have an unused PCIe expansion slot you could add the Blackmagic card. I am very happy with this product.

Here's a link to the Matrox site. There is an analog and a digital version BTW they also have a Triple Head version.
