Math equation for lip sync at 8 fps

I know that 24/fps=Y seconds of song x Y = New song length

But is 8fps just the song 3 times as long as that's what 8 divides into 24

I'm just trying to make sure.

Thanks

Kip

Depends on what camera you're talking about using. Don't assume that 8fps is actually 8 frames per second. If you're talking about a 7D, it might give you more like 4 or 5 fps, depending on the speed of your card, etc.

8 fps vs 24 fps = 1/3 speed = 3 times length, yes. So audio would need to be 1/3rd speed as well. But audio slowed down like that sounds horrible - voices get all Darth Vadery etc. Is that what you want?

For now I'm trying to do the math for a 12 fps pass of a song.

in Pro tools I need to tell it the new length not a percentage to stretch it by so

my song at 24fps is 236.55 seconds long... how long would it need to to be in sync with the HVX's 12.26 version of 12fps?

Barry, or anybody, can you work me through the math and give me the answer.

Thanks

Kip

24 / 12.26
= 1.95758564437

236.55 x 1.95758564437
= 463.06688417618271

So your song should be stretched by 1.95758564437x, to 463.06688417618271 seconds.

But afterwards it's going to sound like a bag of hammers going through a meat grinder...
