matching V.O.

OK. so, I had to some ADRs, it's for an exterior shot that got cut off by a truck passing (nyc, yes..). It cuts only the lines of one character, so I only asked this one actor to come and re-record those particular lines. ( those lines were half improv'd so I didn't have another take).
Then, because he had almost a monologue there, I only recorded the second half ( was afraid that recording from the top would make the end, what I need, out of sync...I chose to record almost only the lines that got cut off..stupid. )
It gets worse: I recorded with a different mic and into minidisc, instead of into the dvx with the omni mic that I used for the shoot.

As you can expect, it doesn't quite match.
Any suggestions? I've used ambient noise of course. maybe a filter that I should play with...Anything.
it sounds like it's coming from someone else in a different location. ( aahh! )

The interiors are better though, not perfect, but better.

Re: matching V.O.

I'm not an audio person but try comparing the waveforms of both and then apply audio filters and compare.
Check volume and overall tone and try to select the filters that would best adjust to match. If you recorded ambient sound on the location you could try mixing some of that.
As you've discovered sound matching is very tough.
Check the book: Audio Postproduction for Digital Video by Jay Rose.

Re: matching V.O.

Get him to re loop the whole thing using the best quality of recording possible, then mix it together with your backgrounds.

Not sure how much coverage you shot, or if you can still edit the project, but if you can after you've done the adr and tried matching it up, edit in shots that don't show his or her mouth whenever it doesn't match.

If it's a long monolgue, break it up into parts, and have them hit each part correctly before moving to the next.

Re: matching V.O.

Yeah, thanks. Good points.
It seems like the alternative is to cut to another take, use some inserts, reaction shots. I didn't want to do that, but...
I was freaking out too much.
There are some choices left. I can even go radical and use it as an "internal thought" result. Maybe...
I'll work it out.
Thanks.

update: I didn't want to do many takes of this, this was the "last one, (pleeaase...)" And after cut I can hear myself in the background talking to the sound recordist. Then...there's one more take...which was crap!

but I'm gonna make this work still!
