Matching a HMI sungun to cloudy colo temp?

I'll be shooting some footage in the snow this week and the weather is calling for 100% chance of 100% cloud cover. I was wondering if anyone could help me narrow down what my options are to make a HMI sun gun match the cloudy color temp? We will just be using it to give the subjects face a little pop in the close ups... I live in SoCal so I can't really test this out.

I'm guessing a 1/8th or 1/4 CTB should get me up to 6500-7000k. Am I in the right ball park here with my guestimation? Is there anything else I should bring to be prepared?

Without anything on HMIs run cooler then 5600k. If you want an HMI to match sun you would put something warm in the front while if you wanted the HMI to match the shadow on a sunny day then you are right on the money. Cloudy is a bit more bluish then shadowy so yes with 1/8 you are on the right track.

Does anyone on your crew have a color temperature meter? If so, that's the way to go and that'll tell you exactly how much to put on.

I would be careful about relaying on Temp meter as a.) they have to be frequently calibrated (and many people don't) and b.) each color temp meter meters colors differently and there be up to 500K difference from one brand (NEW) meter to another.

I wouldn't think that the calibration would affect the difference between two different readings, but only where it places that reading. Everytime I've used them they've worked pretty well. I wouldn't be surprised if different brands gave you different readings brand new...I'm sure every company thinks they know what's exactly right...but again, it's the difference that matters, not exactly what kelvin the meter is giving you. Right? I haven't had one myself, so I admit I'm not a pro with the system that they use...but that seems to make sense to me.

Have you had bad experiences with them or something?
