Hi everyone,
It seems very important to not only get a good sharp lens with good color rendition, but to ALSO make sure your lenses match up well with one another. We know that the basic 3 lenses to get are (usually) a 50mm, 28mm, and 85mm (imo the 85 could be switched for a 105mm). Currently I have a Zeiss 50mm f1.4 which I use for most shots, but can't afford a whole set. I've got a 28mm f2.8 nikon which I hate and a Vivitar Macro 105mm f2.5.
The nikon just looks dull (color and sharpness) in comparison to the Zeiss- its pretty obvious imo, but I want my lenses to match nicely. Is it impossible to get a nikon to match to a Zeiss? If I went and got a newer more expensive Nikon 28mm f2.0 would I have better luck? (it is supposed to be really sharp and contrasty). I have seen people get good footage out of Nikons but I had bad luck on my current 28mm being dull and a previous Nikon 50mm being both dull and having a giggly focus ring!
I know the Zeiss lens lineup is made like a set and the nikons aren't really, so I was wondering if buying all Nikons works for getting the lenses to match up well. Would it be better to go for all Nikons then to try and mix 2 good nikons with my Zeiss 50mm? I love the Zeiss, I use if for most shots, and would hate to give it up. But I just can't afford another $2000 for a wide and tele Zeiss!
