master pedestal and IRE

When you push up/down the master pedestal on the DVX100A, are you pushing up/down the IRE of those areas? Fr example, if you push it up would you push a black shirt, perhaps 20 IRE in certain light,up to 40 IRE for example? When you push master pedestal down, are you taking that noisy 20 IRE shirt into a perhaps crushed 0? Or is it still 20 IRE and youve decided through teh master pedestal that 20 IRE is crushed? ie How does this effect legal levels? Is the crushed effect because 0 IRE is noiseless (no signal?)

dont hate me

ill take whatever tidbits I can get

Adjusting the master pedestal either darkens or lightens the grays and blacks. As you raise the master pedestal, the blacks get lighter, turning to gray, and any existing grays will get lighter too. As they change tone, their IRE values will change as well -- a black that was rendering at 1 or 2 IRE might become a gray at 10 or 12 IRE.
