hey guys, I am working with vegas 6 right now I just had a question, how the hell do you put some black bars on top and bottom on a 4x3 project? I cannot find the special FX or whatever is needed, I know vegas can do it, what I am trying to do is put black bars up and down on the screen as if it was widescreen but I need to be able to write or add graphics where those bars are so its not really widescreen, some one help please

thanks

Luis

Many ways.

You can crop all of your footage in pan/crop to the 16:9 preset (or wider if you want). This is probably the easiest way.

You can add a track and overlay a black bar mask.

There's no specific "16:9 mask" effect.

david where exactly is this track and bar mask at? the crop to 16:9 will not work because I need to put some graphics where those black bars are at, in a widescreen project what you see is what you get you cannot see the black bars or write something on them, let me know

If you want to have the bars visible in the picture no matter what you play it on, you have to work in 4:3, not widescreen.

The crop will be fine, because you can then add text to the black space that the crop will create.

The black bar mask doesn't exist in Vegas; you have to make it yourself. You can do it in the Media Generator by creating a gradient. You can also do it by taking a black card from the media generator and using a bezier mask in pan/crop.

damn it, I can't do it every time I crop it zooms into the footage

Go to the drop-down at the top of the pan/crop tool -- the down arrow next to the little floppy disc icon -- and pick the 16:9 option.

This is the easiest way.
