Hey, i am curious exactly how to do masking in vegas 5. I am doing opening credits on a short film of mine and i have a good friend of mine animating a paddle coming down the screen and i want the words to disappear as the paddle passes over them. My friend informed me that masking is the best way to do this and i was curious if anyone would please help me understand how to accomplish this?

Actually this didnt help much. If anyone knows alot about this type of effect please contact me so i could ask you some specific questions about it.

Your friend should export his animation as .tiff files with alpha channel. This way only the animated object should be visible and everything else on this clip should be transparent. Once you import it into Vegas you should be able to overlay his clip onto your's with the visible animation and transparent background so your clip is seen as well. This way you don't have to worry about bezier masking etc. and it looks better and more proffesional.

Cheers
