Mask Fade Question??

I can't seem to get this fade/mask to work. I keep seeing the black in the area I am masking.

I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong...I want to do a fade into a shot that has a mask. I keep getting the black/negative area of the shot that is masked.

The photo doesn't show me what you mean, but I'm going to take a stab --

Do you have an opaque mask covering some part of the frame? Then you're fading out the mask and the image?

You're probably seeing what you are because as you fade the mask, it goes transparent and anything under it would be visible.

What you have to do instead is have a black card on top of everything that you fade INTO. Make sense?
