Marshall LCD70P or SmallHD or Manhattan LCD..?

Marshall LCD70p - $1000, 800x480
SmallHD - $799, 1280x768
Manhatten HD089B - $599, 1024x600

Are more pixels key with these things? or does the Marshall's extra features, false color, blue only, peaking, combined battery plate, BNC... give it the edge over the higher pixel smallhd and manhattan? Does the marshall have a superior color rendition?

Cheers
Jon

I researched monitors for quite a while and a lot will obviously depend on your budget. If I could have afforded one, I would have purchased the Marshall. For me, the features were really attractive and are similar to those of monitors that cost a connsiderable amount more.

I have a Manhatten. It is an ok monitor for the money. There are lots of things that are a pain in the butt about it. It uses a controller that is being "re purposed" and as a result there are lots of design limitations on the monitor.
The placement of the inputs and controls is on the side and that quite frankly is a real pain. Power in also on the side and though not the end of the world just adds to the annoyance. I use Tekkeon for other things so that is not a big issue but they are heavy and awkward battiers just the same.
There is no Blue set up and you can't flip the image other than flipping the monitor. The image and colour rendition is acceptable but not great. Accuracy is questionable as others have already noted.
I haven't ordered their sun hood because it would cost me more to ship it than to buy it. I ordered a Petrol hood from Vistek in Toronto for $39 Cdn and will attach it to velcro plastic strips that I will screw to the side mounting holes.
In the end I would say if you are spending $600 US + shipping you are getting an ok monitor. I will use mine for a while longer and then buy something better. Perhaps from them if they learn and improve their product. But the old saying "you get what you pay for " holds true.

Brian,

Which model do you have? I have the 8.9" HDO89A and the inputs and power supply input are on the top of the unit not the side.

Do you have one of the earlier 10" models?

no I have the 8.9" inch model and the inputs and the controls are on the sides. Happy to post a photo if you like or you can check the website and look there. The controls and the inputs are on the sides.
Curious what motivated your response?
Brian

Any new thoughts on this question?
Small HD results?
Anyone used more than one of these to compare?

I guess the top 2 criteria would be focus and color rendition?
thanks!

Brian,

What motiviated my response was that my Manhatten monitor had the inputs on the top and yours on the side so I was curious what model you had. The buttons are on the side on mine but not the inputs and power connector. The second motivation was to make sure people reading this thread had accurate information and the HDO89A does NOT have inputs on the side (at least not mine nor do the pics on the site).

Meek,

If money were not an issue I probably would have gotten the SmallHD but in my world right now paying 50% more just didn't cut it. I got my Manhatten HDO89A for about $475 because of a discount code and the battery plate for about $100 so for $575 have a great monitor and battery vs. $800+ for the SmallHD.

BTW - I was also tempted by the $200 price drop on the Ikan 8000HDMI that brough its list down to $795. I found it on one major web retailer for around $750.

Yes, my 089A has input on the top, not the side.

Don't get an Ikan monitor. I have their V8000HD model and it sits there, unused. Build quality, color rendition and sharpness are all very poor.

Notlad and Huy,
Are you guys happy with 089A color rendition?
You would rely on it?

How do you set up the monitor color/brightness without blue gun?
Are you using blue gel?

This question's what has me looking at the Marshall (and my bank balance).
thanks,
Chuck
