Marlon "eyeless" Brando

In the godfather, I saw they always lit brando with a high key, so I tried it as an effect for one of my characters, but when I do it, it wlays creates wicked hard shadows on the rest of the face and body. How can I soften everything else but leave the eyes in the dark>?

Fill everything else with another softer light? Just make sure it's flagged off the face?
