Markings on lens relation to actual distance...

So I want to make sure that I am staying in focus while shooting with my LetusFE, while currently I don't have a FF. I have the Canon FD mount and have it backfocused correctly. I want to use the distance markings on the lenses for reference and was wondering how they actually relate to distance. Does the distance marking start at the front of the lens and go to the subject that is in focus is, or from where the image is projected onto the GG to the subject? I know this sounds like a dumb question but I really just want to make sure. I would assume its from the front of the lens. Thanks

You meassure from the focusing screen / sensor / film plane to whatever you want to be i focus. The handles ontop of the M2 and SGpro serve as a marker for the tape measure, but I dont think the letus has a hook for the tape...

The Letus FE doesn't. The Letus Extreme has one but only if you use the Letus support bracket, where the back of the bracket servers as the film plane.

It's actually a very good question. The distance is measure from the film plane or in our case from the groundglass to the subject. In motion picture cameras you'll see a small marking usually on the side or top the camera indicating the position of the film plane.
