marantz pmd670

Has anyone used a marantz pmd670? Would you recommend it? I noticed if you wanted to use it strictly as a mixer it only has XLR in's. Has anyone used it in this capacity?

Re: marantz pmd670

I just purchased it and I am very happy with it.
I am not an expert on audio, but it sounds amazing to me.
I am getting used to menu etc. right now.
It is pretty small and easy. All the buttons are at right places etc.
It is very well made too.

Battery power seems to be good, but not great. My mic requires phantom power and it sucks up all the juice. (I use AA batteries, not Marantz rechargeable battery.)
I also don't like how it uses screws for the security cover. I change the set up controls all the time and it is pain in the neck when I have to screw and unscrew all the time. I am sure Marantz could have came up with better ways for the cover. But I guess once I get really the hang of it, I don't need to change it all that often, and it is more secure that way, so other people cannot touch the setting.
I also don't like the Compact Flash eject button. It feels weak and clumsy.  I use a SanDisk USB2 card reader instead of connecting the PMD670 to computer via usb cable. I feel like I am going to break the card eject button whenever I take the card out.
The rest of the machine feels very rugged.

The sales guy at B&H told me that nobody has returned PMD670 for repairs or returns. He also told me that he sold it more than any other recorders. He also told me that he hasn't sold any Fostex or other CF recorders yet, and he highly recommended it to me.

Also watch out for PMD660, new Compact Flash recorder from Marantz.

It looks pretty good. Almost as good as PMD670 and about 190 dollars cheaper.
