Marantz PMD660/670. Any Thoughts?

Marantz PMD660

I am looking into an external audio recorder. I have considered DAT and MiniDisc, but I also found some solid state (ie. Compact Flash) recorders. HD recorders would be nice, but I would rather put that kind of coin somewhere else... Basicly, I am trying to avoid spending the money for a HHB MDP-500.

I like the idea of CF cards, AA batteries seem convenient, the size is managable. I find myself using a Rode NT4, on the camera, quite often, which uses two (2) XLRs. I would imagine I would eventually run the NT4 with the portable recorder (off camera entirely), and run some wireless mic(s) into the cameras XLRs (ie. wireless shotgun / lav). I would appreciate any input on portable recorders, and if any one has used the Marantz units, I would love some feedback.

let me know if you have any other questions. I have it right in front of me ( my 660). I use it mostly for interviews, but haven't had the chance recently to try it out with live music. my last live music test resulted in me finding out the attentuation needed adjusting.
