Maps and Examples of Animated Routes

[Mavoz]

Hi there,

Am currently working on a small documentary of my Uncle from World War II.

I'm wanting to utilise maps to show the route he took on a forced retreat via bicycle.

Does anyone know of :

1.) Any free options where I can download good quality maps of France/Germany

2.) Does anyone know of any links to videos online that show good examples of an animated route...(I did some You Tube searching and found 1 or 2)

Just looking for a bit of inspiration on a professional looking way to do this!

At this stage I'm thinking about creating something with After Effects...(I looked into Google Earth Pro...which would do this...but I don't want to spend $400 just to get some maps in there!)

Thanks for any tips!

Michelin Battle Maps is a good place to start: http://www.globecorner.com/s/271.html

also: http://www.google.com/search?client=opera&rls=en&q=Map+france+wwII&sourceid=opera&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8

and: http://images.google.com/images?cli...ceid=opera&oe=utf-8&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wi

Some of the links have animations, but I would look at any Indiana Jones film for map animation.

My simple sample from a few years ago. I tried to make a point by creating it in Movie Maker and Paint Shop Pro 6: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fxi0CYVykpY

But for WWII maps, troop/unit movements I think of front lines etc, there was a lot of news footage from the era with examples. Spend some searching at: http://www.archive.org I know they have some maps, newsreel footage etc.
