Hey All,
Well my 3.5 cents on this is chips are tungsten balanced & we all know how the DVX loves blue light. If you don’t … look at the blue channel someday, noise city.
Here’s what I do:
1) Shoot always in Tungsten 32k preset (chips are tungsten right)
2) In daylight use Corals, 85’s, warms of all flavors ( & ND’s). Know you will always have the most consistent, noise free DV footage the DVX can deliver.
3) Tweak if needed later.
Let’s pretend we are using film. Don’t groan, just pretend. Start with what you know … 32k color balance. Filter, gel, mess with your image with light & gels to get the look you want on the monitor. Just like pulling a Polaroid.
Shoot. Take the credit. Win the women.
I have to laugh sometimes.
Everyone wants “The Film Look” but they refuse to treat the camera like a Film camera. Strange. Learn your craft. So many people talk about Matte Boxes, Matte Boxes, Matte Boxes, … What do you put in them ? “Kinda like spinner rims on a car. They impress who don’t know better.
Answer to original posters question: Use 32K preset and learn it’s behavior. Then with light modify it for your personal artistic expression.
See yea,
Steve
