Manual Focus

I own the DVX 100A and I usually always shoot in manual focus. When I am using manual focus, I usually never use the manual focus ring, but rather hold down the auto focus button for a few seconds to secure focus when I need it. For some reason, I trust this method over my own eye and using the manual ring. I have talked to many videographers who also do this.

My question is, "What do you think about this method of securing focus?"

Any feedback would be most appreciated.

well, it cant be as exact as your eye as it really does depend on what your trying to focus on. But i guess there is no problem if u just hit the auto button to get relative focus then manual focus the rest of it, cause its very rare that the dvx will get exact focus.

I suppose that if your shooting subjects that are constantly moving or in areas where you don't have time to zoom in, focus and zoom out then it should do a decent job. Just keep on your EVF DTL so you can have a better idea what the camera is really focusing on. But if you have the time, definitly zoom in and get your focus.

On the back of your camera near your viewfinder there will be a little circular button that says "EVF DTL" near it. If you push that, the camera will draw a little white outline around objects in focus. It may be hard to notice at first, but after a while you'll start becoming aware of it.

Thanks for the info, Macintosh.

Out of curiosity, do you shoot in manual mode and if so, do you always shoot with the "EVF DTL" on?

Thanks.
