Manfrotto tripods for dvx100b

Having used both, the 503 is miles ahead of 501. The 503 is so smooth and a joy to pan and tilt.

The 501 drives me nuts, when you start or stop panning/tilting, the 501 is just too jerky and sudden. For a while there, I kept on thinking there was something wrong with my technique. Only when I used the 503 did I realized it was the head, not me.

How is the floor spreader for the 525/503 combo? Does that get in the way?

I shoot snowboarding, though 95% of the time i shoot urban ( in the streets, handrails) I am having a hard time deciding on which legs to get.. i have settled with the 501 head.. but im not sure what would be the best for my type of shooting
