I'm about to buy a tripod. I'm a reporter, a one man crew. I've decided on buying the Manfrotto 503 head.

Has anyone experience with th Manfrotto/Bogen 542 Road runner legs.

I tried this tripod today and must say that I liked it a lot. It does fit my needs as a very portable and sturdy tripod. I am not in filmmaking, taking days in setting up my shots. More running and shooting.
I know this tripod is expensive but it has advantages, being light weight and handy. The mid-spreader is in my opinion essential.

I would very much value you opinions.

You might also want to try the Miller SOLO DV tripod, for the legs alone it's $570 @ B&H which I believe is quite a bit cheaper... very light, very quick. Miller.com.au
