Hello,

I have a Manfrotto 503HDV where the video head keeps getting loose(the head is not attached firmly to the bottom part as seen on the picture. When I pan sometimes the head just falls off completely, luckely I was allways be able to save it. But Is there a way to fix this? Anybody else has this issue?
Or should I buy a new head?

Thanks

The leveling ball has three set screws on it. Remove the whole assembly from the tripod (by removing the handle under the ball) and flip it over. There are 3 slotted screws that lock the head onto the ball.

Thanks,

I removed the assembly. And tightened 2 of the screws(seem to have lost one) so that the screws come out at the other end of the ball. As seen in the picture

But I do not see any holes on the other end where the screws need to be placed in? Is that normal??

Yes, they are set screws. They just press against the flat base to prevent the ball from unscrewing.

I am going to take an educated guess as to how this goes back together. I have never handled a Manofrotto head of any sort so I may be all wrong. I would suspect that the stud screws into the head by at least 1.5 to 2 times the diameter of the thread. That's pretty much industry standard for threaded fasteners. After that the bowl slips down in place and is keyed to the stud by the smashed portion of the thread. Run the setscrews down so there is an even clearance between the bowl and head. Securely tighten the nut. If the head drags against the bowl, release the nut and screw the set screws in a bit further.
Let me know if that worked or nut. If not, than post more pics. Looks like a simple assembly.
