Man on Fire

Just got the DVD, love this movie. The camera/editing work was a bit annoying to me at some points but not unbearable. I thought the color correction/saturation was interesting also.

I’m a huge Denzel Washington and Christopher Walken fan so that was cool as well. Walken didn’t have as big of a role as I thought he would however. I thought the character development was very good for the primary (Denzel) also. The story was a bit obvious at points but had some cool twists imo.

Anyway, overall I liked it.

(I also liked how they stuck a snippet of one of my favorite Nine Inch Nails songs into one of the scenes, very quick, like 3-5 seconds but effective)

Re: Man on Fire

it was pretty good... the beginning was a tad slow and showed inability to properly develope characters effectively, but once the bad stuff went down and he was truly a man on fire, the film really picked up...

Yea I was going to say the same thing. I am a big Denzel fan too. The first 1/2 of the movie was slow but after the events that happen, the movie really picked up. I just started listening to the director's commentary on the DVD yesterday. He talked about the style of editing and what they did/use to get those vivrant colors. He said they use about 10 hand cranked cameras to get a certain look then they used some sort of reverse process to really give the film a higher contrast and bring out the colors even more. I will have to go back and listen to that section of the commentary again.

*****SPOILER WARNING AHEAD*************

I thought it was decent, couple things bugged me though. Like the whole scene where the husband takes his own life. That was very tough to swallow considering what he did to his own kid for money. I mean if he's that ruthless you think he's going to go, 'man, I'm a jerk, your right, I better whack myself'? NO WAY, this guy was an evil bastard who would have used that last bullet to whack Denzell.

Also, was that scene even necessary? What purpose did the, 'is the wife in on it' over exposition piece serve? Strange. That whole 5 minutes just really let me down, as you can tell.

Solid film tho, loved the dp's work. Oh, and the bomb up the ass piece was fabulous. ;D

See, I did not get that he was an evil bastard. More a conflicted character without lots of scruples, to me. But I agree that his whole, "Were you in on this?" thing came out of nowhere and was only distracting.

I actually enjoyed the first half of the movie, even though it was slower, but I went into it knowing it would be like that, so I wasn't disappointed. Really, it's two movies: the one where Denzel and Dakota make friends, and the one where Denzel is the insane harbinger of death.

And yes, the bomb up the ass was kickin'.

i saw it two days ago too, hehe, i really liked it, the editing was kind of annoying at times though, i think they kind of over did it on the flicker/flash effect
