cool little "title"
I've attended four sessions of the Malibu Film Festival, but it's not in Malibu, it's just up the stree from where I live here in Santa Monica (you tell me?). The theater is a little old, they are a lot unorganized, but that opening night, there was sort of this electricity in the air, people were ready to see something not main stream, something thought provoking, or maybe just something different.
The first film was an animation: The Toll. DANG. What a great idea to do an animation in the set of a documentary. I love going to film festivals because of short films like this.
Here's a run down of films: http://www.malibufilmfestival.com/public/festival/film_descriptions.htm
If you haven't been to a film festival, you should. Most big cities have them. Some smaller towns also show them. It's really worth spending a little money to support other indie filmmakers. I've seen four sessions at $10 a pop. Tomorrow I'm going to sit in on the screenwriter's workshop, it's free. You really can't beat that.
Kudos to those who put together these festivals!
