Making words in my text clip show up at different times

Hello,

I am not sure to post this in the NLE Software section or the Graphics section.

In any event, I am wondering how I can make the words in my text clip show up at different times. For example, the words "Directed By" show up on a black screen, then one second later, the name "Rehdarh" shows up after the words "Directed By." This seems like a simple thing to do but I cannot find out how to do it.

The opening credits to Birdman illustrate what I am talking about:

Thank-you,

2 Ways:

1: Make multiple versions of your title - one with the first word, one with the second word, etc, then layer them and sequence them as required.
2: Use masks to cover/reveal the parts of the title you would like to be seen. (Can be done in Premiere but for more complex stuff, AE will be much better)

I'm not familiar with masks, so I think I will go with the first one. It basically amounts to putting the words "Directed by" on one track, and then "Rehdarh" on a second track, both of which are on top of the one clip which is on a third layer, right?
