Someday I'll be able to afford a video monitor, but right now I'm stuck with an LCD computer monitor. I know, it's a terrible way to judge color and exposure. But, there must be better and worse ways of adjusting it for video. Any tips? (I"m on a Mac.)
Go to the Dispaly control panel and calibrate your monitor in advanced mode.
Then take a look at the color bars on it and at least check brightness/contrast settings. Search web for steps to calibrate video monitors. You won't be able to calibrate with steps but at least you'll have an idea.
Playback bars and some test footage on a TV from your video camera.
Compare to how that looks on your monitor so you ave some idea how the image differs.
