Making PPCS4 and Cineform footage fly...

So I recently picked up a 60D and have been trying to get the footage from it to edit well in CS4. I decided to go down the Cineform via Neoscene route. The converted footage was better to edit, but not great. I then took the footage into the Lightworks beta and marvelled at how smooth everything ran.

Long story short- after much tinkering I found that I could get the same results by disabling the alpha channel on my footage. Now editing is as smooth as butter to edit... the improvement once the alpha is ignored is pretty significant.

Just a little note in case this isn't a known thing :)

i did not know that. how do you do that in PP? and what is the downside to doing it. and will that help with AVCHD?

Select your imported footage in your bin and bring up the right-click options. It's down the bottom.

and what is the downside to doing it

Nothing, unless you need an alpha channel.

and will that help with AVCHD

If the converted AVCHD is the same as the converted Canon H.264 files out of Neoscene, then it should. There's no harm in trying ;)
