Making Music on Your Computer

Does anyone know of pc software that will mimic instruments (well) by using their computer keyboard for input, instead of a piano/synth keyboard via midi. I found a few shareware stuff but the instruments sound horrible and there's no layered track abilities (a must). I just want a good sounding piano or cello for some background music, but don't have the budget to hire Yo Yo Ma.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Making Music on Your Computer

your better off using software like SOUNDTRACK or GARAGEBAND or ACID or FRUITY LOOPS to name a few. I have made about 14 or so tracks with SOUNDTRACK and DRUMS ON DEMAND (contains all drum and percussion loops and sounds 10 times better than the drums with ST or GB).

Thanks. I have Adobe Audition and  have fiddled wit h loops in that. But I wanted to just put together a small ambient piece of a cello. Can't seem to find any loops of the cello. :)

Re: Making Music on Your Computer

You do know that you can "draw in" midi in a sequencer, right? So that you actually could use a midi editor and not attach a keyboard to your computer. As Dan here recommended in another thread, you might want to search for some SoundFonts.

you might want to invest in one. You can try a program called fruity loops. You can compose songs or any kind of ambient sounds by the touch of your keayboard. I think its only 50 bucks maybe. I've only used it once back in the days when it first came out. I was one of the beta testers. That was many years ago and fruity loops has now become an amazing little peice of music software. Even a pet monkey can created a yo yo ma piece. :)

Re: Making Music on Your Computer

I LOVE FRUITY LOOPS. The weird thing is I am eating Froot Loops while making music. Two great things go great together. Thanks everyone.
