Making footage look better

No matter how good your lighting is, resolution, DOF (which is valueless and a crutch, IMNSHO), and post-production tricks, if the shot is not properly framed everything else is just turd polishing.

You can have bad lighting on a well-composed shot, and nobody will notice the bad lighting (or better yet, it will look deliberate).

Shooting something compelling, and then editing it into an interesting story is also important.

Yes, that is all true. In defense of my post, I just meant purely from a visual 'aesthetic' ; meaning if have framed a shot correctly and all that, and the 'look' of your picture looks like video. Thats all I was saying. But yes it's true, you could have great visual styling but if nothing else is up to par then :thumbdown

every few classes that I see has the potential to be a director or a cinematographer.

I wish someone quailfied would either tell me to keep going or to become a fulltime P.A.

Not everyone is going to be at the same level but that should not stop one from doing what they enjoy. Or said another way a little professional therapy can get have the people interested in film to realize their real issue and fix it.
